24th November 2016, London: Mount Street, Mayfair welcomed Fred Sirieix the star of Channel 4`s BAFTA Award Winning `First Dates` and Internationally renowned artist Sir Antony Gormley to switch on the 2016 Christmas Lights.
Glamourous female duo Verity & Violet took to the stage and warmed up the crowd with some classic Christmas sing-along hits before Peter Wetherell, Chairman of the Mount Street Association, took to the stage to introduce Sirieix & Gormley.
Commenting on the tree Gormley said “It was a joy to collaborate with Zumtobel and their brilliant team of lighting innovators on this project. I thought that rather than decorating the outside of the Christmas tree it would be fun to light its core; the trunk, transforming it into a radiant centre against which the branches would become illuminated and silhouetted. I want the tree to celebrate life and all its myriad forms. At this, the darkest time of the year and at a moment of global dysfunction, I hope this magnificent tree conveys a feeling of continuance and vitality.”
The Wetherell Firetuba Wearing Victorian evening dress and playing Christmas Classics Krzysztof Werkowicz wowed the crowd with his lively music and flame spurts.
The Connaught Christmas Tree 2016 by Sir Antony Gormley
The magnificent Western Red Cedar tree commonly used for totem poles by the peoples of the Pacific Northwest coast of America has been sourced from Shropshire and stands 17.5m tall on Carlos Place. Its trunk has been transformed into a tapering column of brilliant light across which its branches and foliage weave a constantly changing dance.

Nicholas Kirkwood Store Relaunch
The 24th November also saw the relaunch of the Nicholas Kirkwood Flagship Store at 5 Mount Street. To celebrate the occasion they themed their party `Christmas Crystal Heeling at Nicholas Kirkwood`. The event included Aura photography in their special booth, Polaroids to take home and cocktails from The Herball which used quartz crystals and gemstones to concoct and infuse special jewel toned drinks. Their signature drink of the evening fused Ruinart blanc de blancs champagne with powdered lapis. A queue around the block formed very quickly for Nicholas Kirkwood’s cheese truck which offered special stiletto branded truffle mini toasties and cups of mac & cheese.
Further Christmas cheer was added by Mount Street’s world famous fashion boutiques and restaurants, all beautifully decorated for the evening with roast chestnuts, mulled wine and mince pies spilling out into the street for a fun evening of shopping and socializing.
