With the return to Mayfair after the Christmas and New Year holidays, everybody is curious as to what 1998 will bring to the market. As the year progresses, more people have the confidence to sell or to rent and Wetherell have an increasing number of properties available, both for purchase and to let.

Wetherell have started the year with a flourish, receiving instructions on properties totalling nearly £4.5m. and have already sold over £3.25m. of property for clients since January 1st.

Of special interest was Mayfair’s only folly, a hidden house close to the Connaught Hotel, built in the style of an Elizabethan lodge. Included in the sale were the C16th four poster beds, as it was easier than removing them via the windows!

Wetherell have also sold an enfranchisable townhouse with private garden situated behind the American Embassy, even though the lease had less than 20 years to run.

Wetherell’s Rental Department are producing yields for clients in excess of 8.5% and are experiencing continued demand from corporate clients and potential purchasers who, having sold, are waiting for the right property to become available.
